BLUES KING - GRAMMY® NOMINEE - ERIC GALES IS MAKING MUSIC HISTORY - SCORING #1’S ON BOTH BILLBOARD’S GOSPEL AND BLUES CHARTS AT THE SAME TIME

© Eric Gales 2026

Few guitarists command the kind of respect that Eric Gales does. For more than three decades, his name has carried extraordinary weight among musicians, producers, and audiences who understand that true greatness is measured not only by technical brilliance, but by emotional honesty. While many guitar heroes have built careers on speed or spectacle, Gales has forged his legacy through fearless expression, unmistakable tone, and a musical language that is entirely his own.

That legacy continues to expand in remarkable fashion.

The latest chapter arrives through his collaboration with the band Red Hands on the explosive new project Kinfolk, a release that has made an immediate impact by climbing both the Billboard Gospel and Billboard Blues charts shortly after its debut. The achievement represents a rare crossover moment, further demonstrating Gales' remarkable ability to transcend genre while leaving an unmistakable signature on every recording he touches. His contribution elevates the project beyond collaboration—it becomes a defining artistic statement.

For anyone familiar with Eric Gales' work, the success comes as no surprise.

There is only one Eric Gales. From the first note, his guitar announces itself with unmistakable authority. His fluid phrasing, soulful attack, and fearless improvisation create a voice that is instantly recognizable, while his smoky, emotionally charged vocals add another dimension to performances that feel equally intimate and explosive. His music possesses an effortless confidence—never chasing trends, only revealing truth through sound.

Although often introduced as a blues guitarist, that description has never fully captured the scope of his artistry. Gales has long existed beyond traditional labels, seamlessly blending blues, rock, jazz fusion, rhythm and blues, funk, soul, and contemporary influences into a sound that refuses categorization. His recordings reflect decades of musical curiosity, while his live performances transform those influences into something spontaneous and deeply personal.

As Gales himself explains:

"Music is my life, and my life is music. All kinds of music—they go hand in hand. It's truly all I know."

That philosophy is evident in every chapter of his career.

One of the defining moments of 2026 arrived during the BET Awards, where music icon Lauryn Hill paused the performance to spotlight Gales before thousands of viewers.

"Eric Gales on guitar... come on Eric Gales, turn it up!"

What followed was one of the evening's most unforgettable performances. His electrifying guitar work immediately captured the audience, while clips from the performance spread rapidly across YouTube and social media, introducing an even broader audience to one of modern music's most extraordinary instrumental voices. For longtime fans, it simply reaffirmed what they have known for years—few musicians possess Gales' ability to command a stage with such effortless intensity.

His recent collaborations continue to showcase that remarkable versatility.

Bootsy Collins' ambitious metal-funk interpretation of Jimi Hendrix's Manic Depression places Gales alongside another legendary innovator, creating one of the year's most talked-about recordings. Meanwhile, his featured performance on Cactus Records' presentation of Howlin' Wolf's Back Door Man once again demonstrates his extraordinary ability to reinterpret classic material without sacrificing authenticity. Whether paying tribute to blues pioneers or helping shape contemporary recordings, Gales brings an unmistakable identity that cannot be replicated.

The comparisons often made between Gales and legendary guitarists—including Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck, B.B. King, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Albert King, Eric Clapton, and Buddy Guy—reflect the immense respect he has earned throughout the industry. Yet despite those lofty parallels, Eric Gales has never sounded like anyone else. His artistry exists in a category entirely his own.

His journey began in Memphis, Tennessee, where music was part of everyday life.

Playing a standard right-handed guitar upside down as a naturally left-handed musician, Gales developed one of the most distinctive techniques in modern guitar history. He first picked up the instrument at just four years old under the guidance of his older brothers, Eugene and the late Little Jimmy King, absorbing blues traditions while simultaneously reshaping them through his own imagination.

His emergence as a child prodigy in the early 1990s announced the arrival of an exceptional new talent, but the road that followed was anything but straightforward. Gales endured deeply personal struggles, including addiction and incarceration, experiences that tested both his career and his resilience. Rather than defining him, however, those hardships ultimately strengthened his artistic voice, giving his music an emotional depth that resonates with remarkable authenticity.

His family lineage is equally extraordinary. Carlos Santana serves as Gales' godfather, while the influence of his late brother, Little Jimmy King, remains woven into every chapter of his artistic evolution.

That connection reaches its emotional peak through A Tribute to LJK, released via Provogue/Artone Records. The deeply personal project honors Little Jimmy King's enduring influence while simultaneously looking toward the future. The album earned Eric Gales his second GRAMMY® Award nomination, proving that deeply personal storytelling can also produce universally celebrated art.

It is a record built not only on remembrance but on gratitude, legacy, and artistic evolution.

Beyond the studio, Eric Gales remains one of the most compelling live performers working today.

Following an exceptional touring schedule throughout 2025—where numerous performances sold out across multiple markets—he continues his international momentum with extensive European appearances before returning to North America for another major run beginning in August 2026. Anticipation also continues to build around upcoming performances at New York City's legendary Blue Note, where several surprise guest collaborations are expected.

Among the year's most prestigious invitations is his appearance at Eric Clapton's Crossroads Guitar Festival in Austin, Texas, an event widely regarded as one of the world's premier celebrations of guitar artistry.

This October, another landmark awaits as Gales joins an extraordinary lineup at Radio City Music Hall for Buddy Guy's 90th Birthday Celebration, honoring one of blues music's most influential figures on one of America's most iconic stages.

Away from the concert stage, Gales continues to reach new audiences through thoughtful conversations about creativity and musicianship. His widely viewed interview with producer and educator Rick Beato has generated millions of views, offering rare insight into his creative process, musical philosophy, equipment choices, and lifelong commitment to artistic growth.

Adding yet another dimension to an already remarkable year, Gales is also preparing to make his film acting debut, with additional details expected to be announced in the coming months.

His list of accomplishments continues to grow.

Bookends reached No. 1 on the Billboard Blues Chart, while the acclaimed album Crown further solidified his position among contemporary blues' defining voices. Multiple Blues Music Awards, civic honors including the Keys to several cities, and a star on Memphis' legendary Beale Street all recognize the extraordinary cultural impact he has made throughout his career.

In 2025, his artistry reached Hollywood through the Academy Award-winning film Sinners, where his powerful guitar performances became an essential part of Ludwig Göransson's acclaimed score. Tracks including Grand Closin' and Elijah seamlessly merged Gales' emotionally charged blues guitar with orchestral storytelling, introducing his musicianship to global cinema audiences.

His participation in performances surrounding both the Academy Awards and the GRAMMY Awards further reflected the growing recognition of his influence across every corner of the music industry.

Today, Eric Gales stands at a remarkable point in an already historic career.

He is no longer simply regarded as one of the greatest blues guitarists of his generation. He has become a complete musical force—an artist whose work transcends categories while inspiring audiences, fellow musicians, and the next generation of guitarists around the world.

Every performance carries decades of experience. Every note reflects resilience. Every recording expands an already extraordinary legacy.

Eric Gales continues to prove that true artistry is never confined by genre, expectation, or history. Instead, it evolves, challenges convention, and continually raises the standard.

And if the momentum of recent years is any indication, the most compelling chapters of Eric Gales' remarkable story are still waiting to be written.

Beyond the accolades and sold-out stages lies the perspective of an artist whose journey has been shaped by resilience, reinvention, and an unwavering commitment to music. In the following conversation, Eric Gales reflects on his creative philosophy, career-defining moments, current projects, and the experiences that continue to shape one of modern music's most distinctive voices.

Talk about your music?

EG: For me trying to talk about my music is hard to express. It is truly what I was put on this great earth to do, but I will say it's always highly emotional.

Tell me how your music changes lives?

EG: I can only give my perception from what people have conveyed to me that changed their outlook on certain things, as well as people telling me when I performed a rendition of someone else's music, they never imagined this song being done that way. Blues music in general touches everyone emotionally, so if my music touches one person I am happy.

Talk about the history of blues music and how it has affected you?

EG: History of blues goes back a long way. It originated in the deep south of the United States back in the late 1860s. It emerged from the cultural and musical traditions of African Americans. It has a distinctive call-and-response pattern, with a 12-bar chord structure, and remains the foundation of global music. I am so elated to have it as a hefty dose of the ingredients that make up who I am as an artist.

Talk about your proficiency in blues guitar and how you were able to get to the level that you're at today.

EG: I just never gave up; it has always been an uphill battle. I don't really have a choice. Honestly, this is all I know. I am a consummate musician through and through. Also, I am constantly hearing things that inspire me and connecting to them, as well as applying it to my guitar playing. I grew up on this kind of music and continue to strive as much as I can, and let the rest handle itself.

Talk about all the different music genres that you want to be known for?

EG: I am inspired and influenced by all styles and kinds of music. So, if there is a way I can intertwine all of it some way, somehow, then I will!! I am in it for the long haul; my legacy will be very interesting.

What's your biggest influence in your music?

EG: It is hard to say what's my biggest influence. But they all are crucial parts of the makeup of who EG is!!

Who is your mentor?

EG: My brothers were my biggest mentors growing up! I love them all.

Talk about growing up?

EG: I grew up in a great household. Music was always being played and heard in some form all the time. I cherish those memories!!

Talk about how your childhood molded the person you are today?

EG: Simply being the baby of the family, I had a lot to soak up from everybody.

What are the most challenging things in your life?

EG: It's really important for me to empower people, and to try to be the best me that I can be. That always is challenging.

Your beautiful wife Ladonna has been a rock for you; how did you meet her?

EG: I met Ladonna at a festival here in Greensboro. I just knew she was going to be my wife!! ❤️ She holds everything down for me. She could have given up, but she is by my side at every turn. She is the best part of my life!

How has love changed your music?

EG: Love has just given me a deeper perspective; it resonates in every chord played.

Who was the first recording artist that you remember hearing?

EG: The first recording artist I remember hearing was Albert King. He set the tone for what was to come for me as an artist.

Talk about some of the producers you have worked with?

EG: Since I started recording, I have worked with a lot of incredible producers. All of them have brought unique aspects to each project, and I have a strong fondness for every last one of them—from A to Z.

You worked on the film "Sinners," which was nominated for the most Oscars ever—16 nominations—and won 4. What does this mean to you?

EG: Yes, I was featured in the film Sinners Original Motion Picture Score, alongside genius composer Ludwig Göransson, known for his work on films like Black Panther and Oppenheimer. "Grand Closin'," which features my guitar work as part of the bluesy finale for the film's score, and "Elijah," showcases my instrumental blues guitar skills, blending them with the orchestral score, alongside other collaborators like Christone "Kingfish" Ingram and Lars Ulrich, bringing his powerful riffs to the soundtrack for the film Michael B. Jordan starred in. This is all a first. I was just so excited to be part of this amazing film. I can't even imagine.

What would you tell a young person starting out in the music business?

EG: That is such a deep question, because today's youth can bring so many new ideas to the current music scene. I would tell a young musician starting out to never lose faith and remember the very thing that inspired you in the first place. Have laser focus and keep a small but mighty circle of people around you.

Talk about your fans?

EG: The fans are everything!! They are the fuel I need to drive this ship! My fans are extremely important to me.

What's the one thing you can say to your fans?

EG: I would tell my fans a simple thank you!

EG: I am sure you can tell that I love fashion and style. My fashion style is just me! It can change from time to time, but it is all me, and it all depends on what I am feeling!

How do you dress on the red carpet?

EG: That's an easy one; Red Carpet is all about dressing to impress.

How do you prepare for a show?

EG: It is strange. Most artists have a whole routine before a show. For me, preparing for a show is simple, just doing nothing, and being silent most of the time.

If you could change one person's life through your music – what would you tell them?

EG: Help yourself first, because you can't help nobody else if you can't help yourself.

When did you know you wanted to be a musician as a career?

EG: Having music all around me and listening to some amazing artists, it hit me early. I knew I wanted to be a musician when I was 11 years old.

How has your family helped you in your career?

EG: Can't say enough about my family, and my family has always been very supportive throughout my career.

If you were not a recording artist, what would you be doing?

EG: Music is in my blood, starting with my grandfather and church. I looked up to my dad, and he was a truck driver, so perhaps that would have been my calling.

Tell me about some of your other projects you have worked on and have going on now?

EG: I was featured on Cory Henry's album Church, which won a GRAMMY®. I have a very close friendship with Slash, who is a very prolific guitarist. I worked with the Memphis hip hop group Three 6 Mafia. I was featured on Alexia Jayy's breakout debut single, "Rent Free," after she won Season 29 of The Voice. I was also featured on the Tank and The Bangas song, "Ain't That Deep." I have done lots of work with GRAMMY® Award-winning producer Raphael Saadiq.

How does all of this newfound fame feel?

EG: Not sure if I would call this newfound fame. It's everybody else that is catching on. I am just doing the best to smell the flowers while I can.

In today's political divide, what can you do to help heal this country through your music?

EG: To help this country's health, I have made the conscious decision to be committed to doing what I have been doing, playing my music—one note at a time.

Where do you see your music in 5 years?

EG: By simply continuing to do more of it, music outside the norm, such as movie scores and other things that bring awareness to the legacy of who Eric Gales is!

Are you excited about this upcoming year?

EG: Yes, I am very excited about the upcoming year!!! If what all I have been blessed to experience this year is any sign of things to come, wow, I better brace myself!!! Lol

What is the one thing that anyone can do to change the world?

EG: Love one another. Treat each other with dignity and respect!! And pray.
